New Year augurs promises , brings with itself  - an enthusiasm to move towards your goal and  to dream big ,an intense desire to excel. Its a time to make resolutions and changes. From childhood days it was a tradition to get ourself new clothes, got one this year too. Thamma used to say to mom "ajke barite bacha der boko na" (Dont scold the little ones today). So you can well imagine how special this day was to me. An official confirmation from the HOF (head of the family) to plunge into a fun-filled day. The interpretation of  the word entertainment it-self has changed now. Thesedays new dresses excites no more. Perhaps Children are more happy to get a Video Game CD or tickets to a Harry Potter movie might make their day.

Well I am little dissapointed today. Our maid made her presence felt quite early in the morning. I said " Why so early? " and came back to room without even waiting for the answer. She said "I am not sending my son to school from today , so thought of coming to work so early." A shocking declaration indeed and this came up nearly within 15 days of making Education a free and fundamental right for the children of India.
She continued " They have increased the school fees to Rs 30 per month, now it is not possible to send him to school." I saw a ray of hope here, now it should be free because of the RTE. I asked "how old is your son?". "He is 3 and 1/2 yrs old". Hope Gone. The act says children within the age group 6-14 yrs of age are entitled to this fundamental right. I proposed the next best option. I said you send him to school. I'll pay the money. I mean i recharge my mobile with an amount 11 times of it. I cant let this happen. A child not going to school for 30 odd bucks.!!!

But she denied. " I cant take this, the school is not nice, i wont send my son there, the teachers dont teach" , "most of them remain absent, yesterday he took an attempt to run away, he is still a kid now, who will take that responsibilty." Now that is a real issue Mr Sibal.Even your free education scheme is not attracting the poor to send thier children to school. The schools need to be more strict on the teachers attendance. Even the mid-day meal Scheme should be implemented in the grass-root levels. Nevertheless my disscusion ended then and there. Later in the day i suggested to send him to some good school where these type of issues are rare. She said " Yes I will, let him turn 4."
I'll wait for the moment and ensure that this lil chap gets his fundamental right. Well you may call it my resolution for this year.!
